Individualized Family Tuition Program
Tatnall is proud to offer an Individualized Family Tuition program, where, as the name suggests, we individualize tuition based on the financial picture of each family. We know the financial assistance process can feel overwhelming so we created this page and FAQs as a resource to help you navigate the process. Though this is intended to give you a big-picture view of the financial assistance process, it is not exhaustive of every financial situation. Tatnall prides itself on working closely with families through both the enrollment and financial aid processes. If you have any unanswered questions after reviewing this information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us; we are happy to assist.
Individualized Family Tuition Application
The Tatnall School is proud to use the Clarity Application to determine a family's level of financial need based on the information that families share in the application, which includes assets, income, expenses, and debts. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete and is mobile-friendly.
To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account.
Tatnall's Individualized Family Tuition is based on demonstrated financial need without regard to gender, race, religion, or ethnicity.
Prospective Families
Prospective families should complete an application through Clarity during the admission process in order to be considered for the Individualized Family Tuition Program. Our priority deadline is December 1 of each year. The majority of enrollment and tuition decisions are made in January and February; however, we do consider financial and admission applications on a rolling basis after that.
Current Families
Returning families should complete an application through Clarity by January 5 each academic year.
Individualized Family Tuition FAQs
A: The school charges a range of tuition based on a family's financial situation. Factors include, but are not limited to, income, assets, the number of children in tuition-paying schools, and liabilities.
A: The Clarity application is quite user-friendly. It can be completed on a mobile device and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The cost of the application is $60 per household. Once submitted, the most recently filed taxes will be verified through the IRS, which can take 5 -10 business days.
A: For a single-parent household, we will need a financial application and confirmation that the second parent is not fiscally responsible for tuition. This would typically come in the form of a legal agreement. For dual households, we require a financial assistance application for each household to make an individualized tuition award.
A: Though tuition is individualized to each student through their contract, a family applying for more than one student is considered for aid as a family unit. If one of the students applying does not enroll or a child in the household no longer attends a tuition-paying school, Tatnall will revisit the aid package granted to the attending student.
A: Families must reapply for individualized family tuition annually. The application is due the first Monday of January each year. This is an important aspect of the process, as we understand that a family's circumstances can change in a given year.
A: All students are supported by tuition assistance, as the cost of educating a student is not covered by the tuition charged. Though Tatnall does its best to support our students' financial needs, we cannot always meet 100% of the demonstrated need.
A: Your family’s Clarity application is presented to the Financial Assistance Committee by the Director of Enrollment and Financial Assistance. A review of your file includes consideration of household income, assets, liabilities, the number of children in tuition-paying schools, your family’s payment offer, the expected family contribution calculated by Clarity, and any special circumstances.
A: A parent of a child who is younger than school age or who acts as a caretaker to another family member with special needs will not have a salary imputed. Families applying for aid that do not fall into the above categories will have a salary of $30,000 imputed for the non-employed parent.
A: Tatnall’s tuition increases each year to keep up with teacher salary increases so that we continue attracting the very best educators. Every family is expected to absorb the tuition increase, but as the name of our financial program suggests, we individualize tuition on an annual basis and closely examine any new circumstances that positively or negatively impact your household income.
A: Yes, extended day is an additional fee based on the program a family selects. Please contact Heather Colantuono, Director of Summer Camp and Extended Day, for further guidance.
A: Financial Assistance takes place concurrently with the admissions process. Once an admissions file has been completed and reviewed and an enrollment decision has been made, the Financial Assistance Committee will review the financial assistance application and any scholarship information, if applicable.
A: Once an admissions decision has been made, a student's financial application will move to review by the Financial Assistance Committee. It usually takes 5-7 business days to review a financial assistance application and issue a decision, depending on the time of year.
A: We do not have a sibling discount; however, we invite families to apply for Individualized Family Tuition, as financial awards for multiple students are made on a family basis.
A: For Tatnall graduates, we offer a one-time $500 loyalty discount for the first year a new student enrolls at Tatnall. If you have more than one new student enrolling, the one-time discount is per child.
