Athletics: Limitless Opportunities for Growth

Athletics extend our students’ opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom

At Tatnall, the opportunity to learn and grow, to prepare for college and for life, is not limited to the classroom. Athletics is a vital part of the well-rounded Tatnall experience. Required participation in two sports per year from 7th through 12th grade gives every student the hands-on opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship and healthy living—skills that will serve them well no matter what their path in life. Whether a student is an elite athlete or is trying a sport for the first time, every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and compete as a Hornet.

Our Philosophy

Athletic participation helps prepare every student for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Our Athletics Director, Patrick Jones, said it best:
“Some might say that a successful athletic season is when you win more than you lose. This certainly is one way to evaluate the experience, but the Tatnall philosophy is that athletics offers, foremost, an environment to teach life skills. Winning and losing at this level are important only when considered in the context of how we play the game and how we represent ourselves and our school under the pressure of competition. The lessons our students learn through required athletics participation prepare them to better navigate through life.”
Tatnall’s athletics philosophy puts promoting teamwork and leadership squarely at the center of our athletics program.
Through athletics, Tatnall gives every student another avenue for learning, development, social growth and maturation, which help to prepare the student for the responsibilities of adult life.  We expect our coaches, participants and spectators to strive at all levels to develop and display the attitudes of good sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, dependability, good work ethic, self-discipline and loyalty to teams and school.
“Athletics offers, foremost, an environment to teach life skills.”
