North Shore Invitational - February 14 @ NYC Armory
The Tatnall boys and girls track athletes took advantage of New York City's state of the art indoor track and field facility on Friday night as they competed in their final meet leading up to this Saturday's State Meet. Just a week after some of the world's best competed on the Armory's track at the Millrose Games, these young athletes had the chance to run some fast times at the North Shore Invitational.
Girls Winter Track
The girls' team produced 12 season bests, eight of those being lifetime bests! Lydia Colasante '23 shaved about seven seconds off of her previous best, running 5:05.03 in the full mile to place runner-up. She came back a few hours later to run another PR in the 800. Her times in both events rank her first in the state. Sarah Carroll '20 and Delaney Campanelli '22 continued their season successes in the mile, each running huge PRs. This season, Sarah has improved her time in this event by 40 seconds! Kimmi Woods '20, Vanessa Howard '21, and Mia Farina '21 all ran season bests in the 400. Farina and Alexis Tarlue '24 also ran season bests in the 200. Niyah Kellman '23 jumped to a huge PR in the high jump, clearing 4-8. Fatima Konte '20 also threw a huge PR in the shot-put, hitting 29-5.
Boys Winter Track
The boys' team had just as many impressive performances, with nine PRs on the night. Napoleon Hernandez '20 grabbed the win in the 800 in 1:57.80, which ranks him first going into Saturday's state meet. Declan McDonnell '21 ran an impressive mile run, improving upon his previous best time by more than seven seconds, running 4:21.97. This time ranks Declan first in the state in this event. Andre Latina '22, Brett Balthis '21, Sebastian Pizarro '22, and Michael Wolfe '21 all ran PRs in the mile as well. In the 400, Cameron Wright '22 and Manvir Syan '22 both ran lifetime personal best time. Patrick Obal '22 threw a personal-best mark in the shot-put.
The Tatnall track team is now gearing up for the State Meet on Saturday, 2/22, at Prince George's Sport and Learning Center in Landover, MD. The meet kicks off at noon. Go Hornets!
