Harvesting Honey in Tatnall’s Apiary

School was out, but the Tatnall campus was still buzzing this summer! Working together, Upper School Head Bill Schluter, parents Christina and Joe Fabris, Upper School science teacher Evan Cantu-Hertzler, and students Amanda Janusz ’21 and Madhu Sundararajan ’22 collected 200 pounds of raw honey from Tatnall’s on-campus apiary!

Since its establishment in 2016, the apiary has provided students with yet another opportunity to use Tatnall’s diverse habitat as an outdoor learning environment. In visiting the apiary, students can participate in hands-on, multidisciplinary experiences while learning about the health of hive populations as well as the social structure and life cycle of the honeybee.

The honey collected will be sold and the funds will support the health of the apiary!
