College Counseling

Tatnall college counseling is comprehensive and focused. The challenge is to balance the self-discovery process that is so essential for students at this juncture in their lives with an informed and carefully balanced look at college and university options. To this end, our college counselors spend a great deal of time with students and families to identify post-secondary goals prior to any discussion of specific institutions.

The official process begins in September of the junior year with the first of four evening programs. The subsequent programs typically take place in January and May of the junior year and September of the senior year. A series of individual student and family meetings take place throughout the winter and spring of the junior year and continue through the senior fall. Technology has become a large part of the college process, and through Naviance, a web-based college counseling tool, families and counselors manage the college search and application process together.

Tatnall emphasizes that the college process is not a finish line, but another step in a continuum of academic and personal growth. Our students have many options open to them, and making the right match is the ultimate goal. Prepared with a Tatnall education, our graduates are ready to meet the challenges of any rigorous college environment. It is our job to help students understand the choices that lay before them.

The college selection process both exhilarating and intense. Students are being asked to make decisions that will help shape their lives and often to step away for the first time from their "nest" of family and school support. It is an exciting time with powerful opportunities for students to learn more about themselves. In the college counseling office, we feel privileged to participate in this transition, and our door is open every step of the way.
