Theater
Tatnall's theater program has been recognized as one of the best programs in the region.
As with music and art, theater experiences begin early with Preschool and Lower School productions. In Lower School, the fourth grade prepares and performs an annual play and also stages Greek Day in the spring which features reenactments from mythology in full costume. Major productions in Middle School are the 6th and 8th grade plays which require weeks of preparation and involve all aspects of the theater craft, including script-writing.
For 35 years, Tatnall's renowned Showcase production has delighted and impressed audiences with its quality performances. Staged each February, Showcase involves students in every aspect of theater production, from set design to public relations. Students audition almost a year before the first curtain, and those who are chosen become members of The Showcase Players theater company. These players devote over 150 hours of work to the production and earn credit toward graduation.
In the spring, the Upper School theater experience is known as Playbill, and features a full-scale musical or review. The Upper School Drama Club also stages a yearly production.
