Technology
Tatnall features a networked campus with more than 600 connections. The school's three academic computer labs are equipped with state-of-the-art workstations, all networked and all of which include Internet connectivity. All of the labs include laser and color printing and scanning capabilities. Tatnall has four full-time computing instructors plus a technology coordinator.
Division Resources
Preschool. Preschool students have several computers available in their classrooms which offer age appropriate software and hardware.
Lower School. In addition to computers in every classroom, the Lower School features a 24-station lab. Computer education is part of the Lower School curriculum. The Sedgely Library houses ten computer research stations that include color printing, networking, and Internet access. The library card catalog is fully automated. Lower Schoolers also have access to approximately 20 AlphaSmart pre-laptop computers-portable units that students can take home to complete word processing assignments which can be uploaded later to lab or classroom computers.
Middle and Upper School. The Middle School and Upper School each has its own computer laboratory with extensive software and hardware resources including scanners and color printers. Computer training is part of the Tatnall curriculum.
Tatnall's advanced technology makes it possible to support an enhanced technology curriculum including a new Upper School "Computers, Information and Media" course and a revised computer programming course that utilizes the C++ programming language.
In addition to the classroom and laboratory resources, the Ederic Library includes thirty-eight student workstations, color inkjet printing and scanning capability, and shared CD resources.
Specialized Programs
Specialized programs also reflect Tatnall's commitment to technology. The Music Department houses a sophisticated new computer-based digital music recording studio. Expanded computer design and printing resources are available in the Middle and Upper School art departments, and the Latin program has received two new computing systems. The Athletic Department has two dedicated computer systems.
Networking
Major improvements to the campus network have been completed including installation of an underground fiber link between the Sedgely and Beekley buildings as well as computer wiring that provides more than 600 campus connections so far. Tatnall's own World Wide Web server establishes connectivity for Tatnall computers through a high-speed T1 line. Also in place is a "blocking" system that protects students from inappropriate Internet sites. In addition, an e-mail server provides electronic mail services to faculty and staff.
