Mission

"Tatnall is not just a school. It's a way of life."  —Frances D. S. Tatnall

Within this context, our mission is to provide our students with an excellent college preparatory education in a family atmosphere. At Tatnall, a caring faculty creates an environment which nurtures curiosity and encourages students to grow in maturity and self-esteem. In their concern for the total individual, our faculty recognizes and respects each student’s unique intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual needs and gifts. A Tatnall graduate is prepared to succeed as a college or university student and to assume the important role of a responsible member of society in all its diversity.

Our goals

  • To provide a flexible, balanced, and relevant curriculum that a) challenges students according to their ability, learning styles and level of achievement, b) prepares students for higher education and lifelong learning, c) offers opportunities for personal exploration, self-discovery and self-evaluation, and d) helps students to discover what is "true, pure, lovely and of good report"
  • To provide a wide variety of activities which will give students full opportunities for participation and personal development
  • To respect and to value the faculty and to support and encourage their intellectual and professional growth in order to maintain a highly capable educational team
  • To foster communication between home and school that upholds the principles of family involvement in the education of our students
  • To provide the proper environment for learning by maintaining small classes in which students and faculty enjoy a close relationship
  • To encourage respect for diversity in the student body and faculty by a) creating and providing opportunities to explore and to appreciate the differences in others, and b) acknowledging, sharing and celebrating the gifts which each person brings
  • To foster and to maintain a community with shared traditions; to provide resources which fully support and enhance the learning environment
  • To involve our alumni and families in the ongoing life and activities of the school, to preserve and to utilize our unique natural setting and the human resources of the community.
