Students may consign books at the end of the school year. These books will be available for purchase the following fall. Used books will be sold at approximately 60 percent of the original purchased price. Student’s accounts will be credited for books sold at a rate of one-half of the original new book price. Credits will appear along with new book charges on the October statement.

Consigned books may have underlining of the text, but books nearest their original condition will have the best chance for resale. Bookstore staff will review the condition of consigned books.

The Hornet's NestLocated in the Beekley Gym Lobby, the Hornet’s Nest bookstore opens the day before the first day of classes and is open every school day from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A satellite store, located in the Lower School, is open on Tuesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

At the beginning of the school year, parents establish drawing accounts for the purchase of school supplies only. Standard accounts for Lower School students are $25 and $40 for Middle and Upper Schoolers. Accounts may be supplemented as needed. Other Tatnall items (clothing, spirit items) may be purchased with cash or check. Stores are closed during vacations.

The Bookstore Manager coordinates the sale of textbooks for Middle and Upper School students prior to the opening of school. Books may be purchased new or used. Families may buy textbooks from another source if the specific edition of the required textbook is available elswhere. Costs to Middle and Upper School students range from $100 to $500 annually.

Lower School books are distributed to students by teachers and are billed depending on the books used in each grade. These usually cost $200-$300. Kindergarten books are distributed in a similar manner and cost about $100.

Textbook Purchase

Middle and Upper School textbooks for all terms can be purchased from the Tatnall Bookstore at the beginning of the year. A temporary bookstore will operate in the Upper School Band Room prior to the start of classes. We will have textbook lists available which include new and used book prices, and any fees charged for a particular course. Books may be paid for in cash, by personal check or charged to the student’s account. A receipt will be issued at the time of purchase. Books and fees charged will be reflected on the October statement.

Students can purchase their books in the Band Room during the times listed below:

  • Times will be arranged for each Upper School fall sports team to visit (most likely after morning practices, Aug. 29-30). Students will be notified of the visiting times for each team after the preseason schedule has been established.
  • Middle and remaining Upper School Students - Tuesday, Sept. 4, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
The Bookstore will move to the Beekley Hornet’s Nest for the remainder of the year. The Beekley Hornet’s Nest will be open for the purchasing of school supplies on Tuesday, Sept. 4 during textbook sales.
